I tried adding the network share as a trusted location, again to no avail. My issue is only affecting Excel and it is not a 2003 version file. I also took a look at the link you provided, but this mentions that it affects Word also. If I check the box "Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)", then when I try to open the file I get the following error: 'There was a problem sending the command to the program.' I've also tried turning off my antivirus software and this has made no difference. Could this be that it's blank and has now data or sharing user data? The unsorted data creates a series of non-contiguous ranges for the visible rows. It may be faster or slower on your computer, but this is a very simple data set with no formulas. I tried with a blank Excel file and shared it and although it's slower to open over the network than an unshared blank file, it's a lot quicker than my other file. Excel does enter Not Responding (freezing) mode for a few seconds too, which is always scary.
